A workplace challenge became the starting shot
When Heléns Rör in Halmstad wanted to reduce the heavy manual handling of cut tube blanks, the solution was an automated bin-picking cell. Together with AH Automation and Mabema, a FINDER 3D system was installed to guide the robot in the packing operation. After the tubes are cut, they’re conveyed to the robot cell, where FINDER identifies each product. The robot then picks them and restacks them onto a new pallet – neatly and in order, exactly as the customer requires.
“The reason we invested was a workplace-environment issue. We wanted to automate and remove the heavy work step from the operators’ daily tasks.”
– Johannes Morén, Production Engineer at Heléns Rör
Flexibility with a robot-mounted camera
The solution is based on a robot-mounted 3D camera, which provides unique flexibility: the camera can capture images from many different positions and can therefore handle both structured and unstructured material.
“FINDER is a perfect fit for this type of application – partly because of the flexibility, and partly thanks to features that allowed our partner AH Automation to carry out the entire commissioning themselves.”
– Peter Andersson, Senior Sales Engineer at Mabema
Heléns Rör chose a standalone bin-picking cell rather than tying up a robot to a single machine. This gives greater freedom in production: the tubes can be cut on any machine and then handled in the cell.
A partnership that makes a difference
Partnerships are central to Mabema – in this case with AH Automation. Through training and close support, AH gains the competence needed to drive projects forward and deliver the best results to the end customer.
Johannes Morén explains:
“The collaboration with AH and Mabema has met all expectations. From the quotation stage to execution and approval, it’s been a joy – everything has run smoothly and transparently.”
Simplicity for the operator
For those working in the cell every day, user-friendliness has been crucial.
“The machine is extremely easy to work with. It comes pre-programmed with different programs to choose from, and it’s very quick to get started.”
– Mikael Kristiansson, Operator at Heléns Rör
He himself took part in the FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) at AH Automation and notes that the commissioning also went off without a hitch.
The result: Automation that delivers value
With FINDER 3D, Heléns Rör has gained a solution that improves the work environment and increases production flexibility. Together with AH Automation and Mabema, they’ve taken a step toward more efficient, modern handling – with a project delivered beyond expectations.
