Setra is one of Sweden’s largest wood industry companies. They have eight facilities across Sweden, including seven sawmills and one processing unit where they produce glulam, components, and CLT. In the fall of 2023, Mabema installed a GPV system at Setra’s sawmill in Skinnskatteberg for the measurement of 450,000 cubic meters of pine and spruce logs per year. After the summer of 2024, another GPV system will be installed in Malå for the measurement of 700,000 cubic meters of pine logs per year, making it Mabema’s most northern installation.

In connection with the project for Setra Skinnskatteberg, Mabema has developed new GPV functions for length measurement on the outer part of the stack and revolutionary AI methods to determine the tree species distribution of the stacks. Together with previous features for automatic diameter distribution measurement and automatic handling of split loads, we reinforce our position as the supplier of the most automated, accurate, and cost-effective method for automatic stack measurement.

During the development of these new functions, Setra contributed with professional requirements and test trucks. We would like to thank Setra for a very well-executed project and, not least, for their renewed trust.

“We are very pleased with Mabema and the progress made in this project. Their GPV system is a significant step forward for us and for the industry as a whole. We look forward to continuing our collaboration,” says Karl Berntsson, Business Developer of Supply Chain and Technology at Setra Wood.
